Beogram 8000: Test Drive with Miles Davis

After performing the mechanical and electronic adjustments of the Beogram 8000 that gave me some fun insight into aging transistors recently when I troubleshooted its record detection circuit, it was time to reassemble the unit and do a test drive:
I selected "Water Babies" by Miles Davis. One of my favorite records of all time. In fact I bought this one in 1979 as my 29th record (as you can see from the number label in the top left corner...;-)! This Beogram 8000 came with a decent MMC20CL cartridge and Miles sounded very smooth! It seems this Beogram is working well again. I will play it for a few more days and then it will be time to send it home to California.

Beomaster 8000: Test of Repaired Front Panel Ribbon Cables

After reattaching the severed ribbon cable of the Beomaster 8000 front panel and cleaning the contact pads of the program and source keys, I tested the panel in one of my own Beomasters. It worked nicely, all buttons responding precisely and the rotary encoders doing their job. Here a couple of impressions:

Time to send this panel back that it can continue serving in its own Beomaster!

Beocord 5000 (4715/4716): Test Drive

A happy day! The second Beocord 5000 (4715/4716) is back together and is playing happily with its friends, the Beomaster 6000 4-Channel and the Beogram 4002. I decided that the soundtrack of 'Alfie' by Sonny Rollins would be a nice celebratory first recording:

Alfie is definitely one of my favorite Michael Caine movies, and the sound track is just awesome! Here are some impressions of the recording session:
