Beogram 4002 Type 5513: Floating Chassis

This will be a quick and short post just to show an interesting change in the Beogram 4002 Type 5513 suspension mechanics.

In the previous Beogram 4002 Type 5513 project the floating suspension lockdown mechanism was like this -

Bang & Olufsen used some stacked concave washers between the suspension lock and the top plate (removed in this photo). There were also a couple of the washers on the bottom lock. The above Beogram 4002 was serial number 1312615.

This current project Beogram 4002 Type 5513 unit has a suspension mechanism like this -

Its serial number is 1311076. A slightly earlier production of this Type 5513 turntable.  When it was produced Bang & Olufsen was using a single, concave piece of metal between the suspension lock and the top plate. There is also one on the bottom lock. No big deal really but little differences to take note of when you are restoring various Beogram turntable types.

Here is another "interesting" thing ;-)...
The plastic suspension lock bushings in this current Beogram are still pliable and intact. Yet this turntable is older than the first one where the bushings crumbled when touched.

I broke out the Meguiar's Vinyl & Rubber Cleaner/Conditioner #40 and soaked the three sets of bushings. It appears they can be saved.

Here are a couple more pictures of the lock down mechanics of this Beogram.

The lock down screws will be cleaned and oiled so they perform like new again.

Two other things that caught my eye were some corrosion spots on the floating suspension leaf springs and the noticeable missing eccentric cabinet guide washers. I did find some broken plastic remnants of the original cabinet guide washers. That is another Bang & Olufsen Beogram 4002 change. In the newer serial number 1312615 unit the guide washers are metal, as are the guide washers in the Beogram 4004 models.

I will clean up the corrosion on the leaf springs and the eccentric cabinet washers (there are five of them) will be replaced using Beolover's 3D printed replacements.

Next up I will start on the tangential arm assembly and related components.
