Beogram 8000 Type 5613: Wrapping up the Wisconsin project

In completing this Beogram 8000 project I had a few loose ends to take care of as I reassembled the turntable components in the Beogram cabinet.

The following three photos show the Beogram 8000 floating chassis and circuit boards reinstalled in the cabinet.

I decided that I should add a little insurance to this Beogram 8000 and replace the sensor lamp in the fixed arm.  That is the sensor that detects a record on the platter.

The old sensor lamp was still functioning but I had no idea if it was still the original lamp or a replacement.  Changing the fixed arm sensor lamp is similar to a Beogram 4002/4004 fixed arm but is more difficult due to additional components in the arm assembly. 

Replacing the sensor lamp with a brand new one will ensure this Beogram won't have to be returned for that task in the future.

The following three photos show the new sensor lamp installed in the fixed arm and my checking of the fixed arm sensor when it is reading an empty platter.

As you can see, the fixed arm sensor signal is just as expected per the service manual.  A very healthy signal.

Next, I had to add new damping grease to the damper assembly of the metal lid over the tonearm compartment.

The old damping grease was non-existent.  For the replacement grease I used some Nyogel 767A.
It is very close to the original Kilopoise damping grease and performs well.

I also installed two Beoparts rubber bumper pads for the dustcover (where the dustcover contacts the metal deck).

That completes this project and the Beogram 8000 is currently in one of my listening rooms awaiting shipment home.

A Pair of Beomaster 1900 Receivers for Restoration: Unit #2 Wrap Up

The second unit of the two Beomaster 1900 restoration projects is complete.

After letting the Beomaster 1900 play music through the night ...

...I was ready to reassemble the cabinet pieces.

I secured the Bass, Treble and Balance indicator masks back onto the slide controls

Then I fit the touch control panel onto the cabinet frame.
This can be a little tricky since the touch panel button actuators have to fit onto the button sensor posts.

Always check that all of the touch buttons are working before proceeding with the cabinet reassembly.

After the touch button control panel comes the tone control and FM tuning panel.
I applied some new Nyogel damping grease to the lid damper before securing the panel in place.

There are two rubber stops for the control panel lid to rest against when the lid is closed.

Those rubber pieces are always deteriorated and falling apart (if not already gone).

I made a replacement bumper pad with my 3D printer that fits where the original rubber pads were.

On the cabinet base plate I installed four new plastic cabinet feet that I ordered from Martin's Beoparts store.

The final piece was the smoked plexiglas that fits over the touch panel indicator lamps. I had removed it to polish it. It just slides back into place.

Now the Beomaster 1900 is ready for testing in a listening room.

Beogram 4002 Type 5513: Houston Beogram #3 Ready for Action Again

The part of the Beogram 4002 restoration I like the most has arrived. All of the tasks are complete except one final series of fun record playing tests in my office. I like to hook the Beogram up to one of my favorite systems and listen to records while I work at my desk. It is so much more enjoyable than watching television....and someone has to do this job ;-).

I am really pleased with this Beogram. There is something wonderful about knowing that this turntable has had a thorough going over.  It is all clean inside.  Beolover did a great job of restoring the platter motor.  There is comfort knowing that all of the control signals have been checked and adjusted to be at the correct levels. 

We didn't do a full cosmetic restoration like on some Beogram units. This one is in decent shape. At some future date the owner might want to invest in a dust cover polishing and a new coating on the control button panel. But for now it is looks great and is performing like a Beogram 4002 should.
