Beogram 4002 Commander Remote Control: Installation Video

Lately my Beogram 4002 'Commander' remote control system seems to have become popular and I received a few orders in a short period of time. A popularity burst if you will...;-). Maybe it has to do with the fact the the Commander can now be paired with a specific Apple TV remote, enabling to use it together with Apple equipment in the same room. The Commander was designed for late model 4002s that have the keypad connector on the main circuit board (types 551x and 552x). Last weekend I produced three of the receivers and shipped them out today bundled with paired Apple remotes:

Beogram 4002 (5513): Installation of the Latest Version of the Beogram Commander Remote Control

On occasion of my latest Beogram 4002 (5513) restoration, I updated the Beogram 4002 Commander remote control that I developed earlier this year with a 'pairing' function, that eliminates potential conflicts between the Commander's Apple remote and pre-existing Apple TVs etc... I also added the ability to switch between 33 and 45 RPM remotely, thereby fully eliminating the need to use the keypad ever again (to protect it's fragile lacquer coating from skin acids etc...). I made a video about the latest version that explains the functions in detail, and also gives a demonstration of the remote functions as well as the pairing mechanism:


Here are a few impressions of the Commander board as it was installed in the Beogram 4002. This shows the Commander board including its 3D printed tray and mounting 'plug'. The board plugs directly into the keypad connector on the main PCB of the Beogram. The mounting plug enables reusing of the original PCB mounting screw that is located beneath the board to safely fix the Commander board into place once it is plugged in:

This shows the board installed. The keyboard connector is plugged into the white on-board connector and routed through to the original connector on the main PCB. This ensures continued functionality of the keyboard with the Commander installed.

Beogram 4002 (5513) Remote Control: Final 3D Printed Part Added

I finally got around to get the final 3D printed piece for my Beogram 4002 (5513) remote control system: This part plugs into the 10mm orifice of the remote control receiver board and allows the bolting down of the board using one of the four screws that hold the main PCB in place. Here is a picture of the part (with the screw inserted):


When installed with the remote control board the original screw can be used to bolt it down. The cylindrical feature is just long enough to not force the remote board onto the component pins sticking out from the main PCB of the Beogram, while generating a stable fit of the board. Here is a picture of the part inserted and bolted down:


This concludes my design of the mechanical aspects of the remote system. I am planning to make a couple changes to the firmware of the microcontroller to further streamline the remote operation.

Beogram 4002 (5513) Remote Control: Now With a 3D Printed Installation Tray

This entry is a follow-up to my recent posts about my Beogram 4002 (5513) remote control (check out the YouTube video). I recently drew up a plastic 'tray' that insulates the receiver board inside the turntable from the solder points on the main circuit board (my temporary approach to tape a plastic foil to the bottom of the PCB was not very beolovely in my opinion...;-). Yesterday, I received the part. I designed the tray to make a press-fit with the circuit board, so there are no bolts needed, it simply clicks into place. Here are a few impressions:

The three rectangular recesses in the tray give the solder points of the through-hole parts some space.

I am planning to design one more part, which will allow the bolting of the receiver board to the main PCB of the turntable utilizing the original screw that is underneath the receiver. More about this in the next update.
