Here is the power supply board as it was before the recap.
I will also replace the two, small tantalum capacitors at the bottom of the picture along with one more electrolytic capacitor that is inside the metal housing. The replacement capacitors will mostly be Nichicon 105°C, long life capacitors as well as a few WIMA MKS capacitors.
Here is the power supply board after replacing all of the smaller capacitors. The three large axial capacitors are removed here. You can see the gunk left over from some double-sided tape Bang & Olufsen used to help hold the large capacitors in place. From the residue this looks like the same tape that was used to mount the deck lids of the Beogram 8000 and 8002 turntables. I will have to clean that up first. The cleanup won't change the way the new capacitors work but on a restoration project I like the audio component to look and feel brand new again. That means doing the clean up.
With the help of a razor blade and some glass cleaner the board cleaned up nicely and is ready for the large axial capacitors.
and here is the recapped power supply board (before adding the metal shield box). I used black hot glue to secure the new, large axial capacitors to the board. That glue won't deteriorate like the gunky double-sided tape and can be scraped off without too much difficulty if necessary.
This is with the shielding box re-installed.
One other thing to note...While replacing the capacitors, I also re-soldered all of the board connectors on the power supply board. Connections on the Beomaster 8000 can cause a lot of faults so re-soldering the connector mounts adds some insurance against any unseen cold solder joints.
Another part of the cleanup is removing any built up dust underneath the boards. This picture shows the cleaned up floor of the Beomaster 8000 frame for the power supply board. The picture also shows the right channel output board lifted up and you can see the dust built up there.
That is the next task: Output Board recapping and cleanup.
