Beogram 4002 (5513): A new Arrival from Nebraska

I recently received a Beogram 4002 (Type 5513) for a full functional restoration from a customer in Nebraska. It arrived safely packaged in a Beolover shipping container. This post describes my initial assessment of the unit.

I extracted it from the box and put it on the bench:

This deck is in pretty good condition. The hood is in good condition, but could use a polishing.
The aluminum surfaces are in pretty good shape with only minor blemishes:
The plinth has one slightly chafed corner on the right,
while the left is still pristine:
The right side back end is also damaged:
The keypad is still in pretty good condition with only light finger smudges that are only visible under certain viewing/illumination angles:
Installation of the Beolover Commander remote control will stop further deterioration. The Commander allows full operation of the Beogram without needing to touch the keypad. It also adds auto-repeat play.
I removed the aluminum panels and had a look 'below deck':
This Beogram 4002 has the orange transport lock bushings, which are prone to deterioration as is evident from the many fragments strewn around the enclosure.
This Beogram seems pretty much original without obvious evidence of previous repairs:
I plugged it in for a quick test. After pressing start the carriage moved to the LP setdown point and the solenoid engaged. The platter motor also came to life with a bit of rattling, indicating the usual dry motor bearings. All good signs! This should be a straight forward restoration. Stay tuned!
