Beogram 4004 (5526): A new Arrival from California - First Impressions

A customer from California, for whom I had restored a Beogram 4002 a while ago, recently dropped in with a Beogram 4004 (Type 5526) in his trunk. I guess one Beogram is never enough!...;-).

This unit is in very nice cosmetic condition, except that the hood could use a bit of polishing:

The aluminum panels only have small marks
and the plinth is in excellent condition with nice sharp edges:
The keypad is nearly pristine and only shows very light signs of use:
Under the aluminum panels it looked fairly clean
with the usual orangish degraded transport lock bushing fragments strewn around the enclosure:
There are some signs of 'previous human interaction': The tonearm hangs loosely on its two lateral tilt adjustment screws:
Assuming that this may indicate issues with the signal path I put a cartridge on the arm and tried to measure the coil resistance for both channels at the plug into the output board. I was only able to get a reading for one of the channels...we will see what this means during the restoration process.
Also the locking washer for the solenoid arm is missing, so someone definitely worked on this unit before.
After this inspection, I plugged it in and pressed start. The carriage sluggishly moved to the LP setdown point and the solenoid engaged. The platter motor also ran. These are good signs! Stay tuned for details of this restoration project.
