I recently agreed to restore one of my Beogram 4002 (Type 5513) units that I have in storage for a customer in Australia. This post gives a first assessment of the condition of the unit.
This shows the Beogram on my bench:
As usual the hood has some significant scratches.Luckily, there are new reproduction hoods available that look and feel exactly like the original ones.
On the positive, this unit has exceptionally good aluminum surfaces. Even the platter is very good:
It only has two light scratches that are only visible under certain viewing angles:
Our Keypad Restoration Service for Beogram 4002, 4004 and 6000 will make it like new! If you do not want to send us your smudgy keypad, there is also a DIY kit available for replacing the keypad plates at home.
This unit also has a very nice plinth with great corners
There is only one small nick in the right side near the corner:
After this visual inspection I removed the platter and aluminum plates:
The unit seems mostly original, but when I plugged it in it did not respond to pressing START. A quick check revealed that one of the fuses was blown:
There is also evidence of some repair attempts around the power supply as the cut off green secondary AC wires from the transformer suggest:
We will see what the root cause for the blown fuse is. Overall this is a great starting point for a 'like-new' restoration. Usually, functional issues can be resolved for this design and so I am confident that this Beogram will soon play again happily! Stay tuned!
